Taken hold of

My eyes could not perceive the dark,
This heart could only guess of love,
When walking blindly from my God,
He called me from above.

I struggled against the warm embrace
Of a Father prepared to send
His only Son to die for me
That my rebellion there might end.

But in timid faith I shouldered arms
And began to let you in,
Dazzling light of redeeming love,
Whose conquest; all my sin.

To gift forgiveness, life, and joy,
You bled there on that tree,
And rose triumphant from the grave,
Alive, you set me free!

May grace sustain me always,
Your Spirit make me new,
And grant the peace that surely springs
From such a source as You.

So grip this heart with courage,
To hold you aloft in fame,
That others might taste the riches
Of the glory of your name.

  1. Thank you Duncan. I completely share your love of Jesus and He is central to everything I am. Your poetry expresses that relationship very clearly and when your experiences are put into verse the cost for Jesus and our hearts response is expressed beautifully in worship.
